Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman is set to opt out of his current contract and will become an unrestricted free agent, according to multiple league insiders.

Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million deal with the Red Sox before the 2025 season, which included a player option after the first year.

The veteran third baseman leaves $80 million on the table as he will test free agency for the second straight offseason. However, some of the money from his contract is deferred.

Bregman slashed .273/.360/.462 this season with 18 home runs and 61 RBI in 114 games, also earning his third All-Star selection. He went 3-for-10 (.300) at the plate during the postseason with an RBI, a double, and three walks.

The 31-year-old will be entering his 11th season in 2026 with whatever team he decides to sign with.

Earlier in the season, there was controversy in the Red Sox clubhouse with Bregman being brought in to be the third baseman, taking Rafael Devers spot - who they eventually traded to the San Francisco Giants

Now, the Red Sox have neither Bregman nor Devers.
