If you feel like time is flying by and your days are blending together, the same goes for college football. NCAAF is already approaching Week 6! It’s mainly all about conference matchups now, with teams pleading their cases as to why they are worthy of being considered title contenders and postseason candidates. There’s no time to waste. Every game matters now, and a single loss could shatter a program’s playoff hopes and national championship ambitions. The Top 5 in the country remains the same, but after a big win, a new team has entered the rankings.

The newest member of the Top 25? Pitt. The Panthers took down the Virginia Tech Hokies 35-33 in a thriller. Pitt started the game trailing 14-0 before scoring 21 unanswered points to take the lead. The Panthers led 35-24 in the fourth quarter and appeared to be on their way to sealing the game. But Virginia Tech surged back and scored to make it a two-point game. On the final possession, Hokies quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer drove Virginia Tech 62 yards to set up a 36-yard game-winning field goal. Kicker John Love missed it wide left, and the Panthers prevailed.

“Just finding a different way to win,” Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi said. “We talk about respect. I hope the country will respect the Panthers now. I tell our guys all the time that there’s going to be ups and downs. Our guys rode the wave and never gave in. They never batted an eye. They believed until the end. Faith and belief, that’s what this football team’s got. They’ve got a lot of guts in that locker room.”

The Panthers are 5-0 now, but are facing adversity now as starting quarterback Mason Heintschel suffered a torn ACL in the final period against the Hokies and will miss the remainder of the season. But Pitt now entered the Top 25 Poll, ranking at No. 25. The Panthers are 2-0 in the ACC.

No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs handled their business on their home field against Vanderbilt, beating the Commodores 38-14 in a dominant fashion. No. 3 Notre Dame outlasted North Carolina 37-26, No. 5 Ohio State outplayed No. 14 Iowa 31-14 and handed the Hawkeyes their first loss of the year. No. 7 Alabama  dominated the Mississippi State Bulldogs despite an anticipated even matchup. The contest was competitive in the first half - the Crimson Tide led 28-17 after 30 two quarters, and the Bulldogs were in it. But after both teams returned from the locker rooms, Alabama overwhelmed Mississippi State after holding the Bulldogs to only two field goals in the second half.

Alabama is now 5-0 and 3-0 in SEC play. After 19-year-old quarterback Keelon Russell committed three turnovers against Kentucky last weekend, he threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns, while adding another one on foot.

The upset of the weekend belonged to the Missouri Tigers. Mizzou took down No. 8 Florida, just a week after the Gators dismantled the Ole Miss Rebels and significantly climbed in the rankings. Florida couldn’t capitalize on the confidence and high momentum. After both teams converted one field goal in the opening period, the Tigers dominated the Gators in the remaining three quarters and got their first SEC victory of the season after winning 45-17. Mizzou went up 11 spots in the AP Poll, currently ranked at No. 14. The Tigers are hosting Texas A&M this week at home.

The pressure is on. Nobody can afford to lose a conference game. The line between success and downfall is paper-thin. No need to emphasize that Week 6 features electrifying contests you don’t want to miss. Which games are worth watching this weekend?

No. 7 Indiana Hoosiers vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Big Ten will witness another battle between two undefeated teams. Both squads are 5-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Cornhuskers are off to their best start since 2016 and are knocking on the door of the Top 25. If they pull off a massive win over Indiana and knock off the Hoosiers, we should see Nebraska enter the rankings heading into Week 7. The Huskers rank in the top 15 nationally in both offense and defense and have scored at least 31 points in every game.

The defending national champion Hoosiers have been dominant so far but haven’t faced a ranked opponent yet. Northwestern made them sweat in Week 4, as Indiana escaped with only a six-point victory. The Huskers have home-field advantage and are eyeing a massive upset. Yes, Nebraska is red-hot and ready for a statement win. But Indiana isn’t slowing down either. The Hoosiers rank in the top 10 nationally in both scoring offense and scoring defense while also ranking fourth in total defense. Indiana has quickly established itself as one of the nation’s most complete teams under Curt Cignetti. After an unconvincing win over Northwestern, the Hoosiers bounced back with a dominant 47-15 victory over Rutgers.

Nebraska has been excellent on third down and has allowed just 265.8 yards per game. However, Indiana's rushing attack presents a completely different challenge. If running backs Turbo Richard and Lee Beebe can consistently move the chains, Indiana should be able to control the clock and keep the Nebraska offense led by quarterback Anthony Colandrea on the sideline.

Focus point: Nebraska is tied for fourth place in the nation for the most penalties received this season so far. Against Indiana, the Huskers can’t afford another penalty-filled performance. Nebraska committed 16 penalties for 132 yards against Maryland, something that could be disastrous against the defending national champions. They average 9.75 penalties per game, costing them 80.50 yards each contest. The Huskers must stay disciplined against the Hoosiers.

No. 1 Texas Longhorns vs. Oklahoma Sooners

The Red River Rivalry is here! This Saturday, the Longhorns take on the Sooners in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas in the annual classic. Texas is the No. 1 team in the country and undefeated, while Oklahoma is 2–2 and still searching for consistency after losing two of its last three games. The Sooners started this season as the preseason No. 10 team in the nation but dropped from the poll by Week 4 due bad performances. The Sooners are looking to rebound and prove they are playoff-worthy. Texas is the clear favorite. But rivalry games rarely follow expectations, and Oklahoma has a chance to completely change the direction of its season with an upset.

After taking down Ohio State and Tennessee in the SEC campaign, the Longhorns should be overflowing with confidence. Texas is also coming off a bye week and should be fresh, rested, and hungry. Oklahoma had a bye week as well, which gave the Sooners a chance to address their poor performance against Georgia in Week 4. Texas has tremendous potential to have one of the most exciting and dynamic offenses in the country but has struggled to reach its full heights. Against Tennessee, Texas had a season-low 262 yards and 61 rushing yards with 1.7 yards per carry.  So far, quarterback Arch Manning has thrown for 862 yards, and he will need to connect with wide receiver Ryan Wingo, who leads the team with 239 receiving yards, to keep the Longhorns up front.

The Sooners’ quarterback John Mateer has been struggling lately. He threw an interception and lost two fumbles against the Bulldogs, continuing a turnover problem that has hurt Oklahoma throughout the season. If the Sooners want to be competitive, they will need to showcase a top-tier defense and keep the game low-scoring. Oklahoma must force Manning into difficult situations and capitalize on every Texas mistake.

But even if Texas doesn’t get going offensively, their defense should be the difference maker. The Longhorns were incredible against Tennessee, recording 10 sacks and forcing the Vols to go 4-for-12 on third downs. But once again, it's a rivalry, and anything can happen. The Cotton Bowl atmosphere will be terrific. Oklahoma's margin for error is extremely small. Texas has more talent, a better record and more offensive consistency, but rivalry games can become chaotic quickly.

Focus point: Texas has been effective running the football, averaging 147.3 rushing yards per game. Their running game could be the biggest advantage in this matchup. Since 2000, the team that wins the rushing battle in the Red River Rivalry is 24–2, making the line of scrimmage critically important. Also, the Longhorns should have confidence against Oklahoma - the Longhorns won the last two meetings and held the Sooners to just six points in 2025.

No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs vs. No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide hosts the Bulldogs on Saturday night in an SEC showstopper with national championship implications. Two football powerhouses will battle for conference bragging rights, with the winner gaining a massive advantage regarding the SEC title game. Georgia and Alabama are both 5–0 and 3–0 in SEC play, making this one of the most important games of the regular season so far. This is one of the biggest games of the entire season.

Georgia has looked nearly unstoppable through the first five games. The Bulldogs lead the nation in scoring at 51.4 points per game and have outscored their opponents 257–67. They have also yet to trail this season! By the numbers, Georgia has been outstanding, performing in every category. Quarterback Gunner Stockton has displayed incredible efficiency, completing 75.5% of his passes with 13 touchdowns and only one interception. The Bulldogs also have a tremendous offensive line to protect him. It’s been the same five players starting every game, working together like a well-oiled machine.

But Alabama has been just as impressive offensively. The Crimson Tide are averaging 49.6 points per game, which ranks second nationally. Quarterback Keelon Russell is just a sophomore but is performing as a poised veteran ready to carry his program on his back. He has already thrown for 1,414 yards and 11 touchdowns with only two interceptions, while adding 184 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. Russell is in a good spot after a dominant performance against Mississippi State. This game is going to be electric with the attention from all over the country. The winner will significantly strengthen its resume, making it postseason-worthy.

Focus point: The Saturday night thriller might be affected by some unpleasant weather as the forecast predicts rain and wind. On Friday evening, Hurricane Isaias is predicted to hit the southern coast of the United States before weakening. There is a risk of the game being postponed, and the nation hopes Tuscaloosa will dodge the storm.

"Just assess it based on the situation we're dealing with," said Georgia coach Kirby Smart. "Weather obviously can be a factor. This time last week, we thought there was going to be a monsoon for the Vanderbilt game. You have to plan based on it, and you've got to change the plan based on the future forecast." Bad weather conditions could make the game difficult for both teams, making the margin for error almost nonexistent.
