Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (29) was a full participant in practice Thursday after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the team's recent matchup against the Cleveland Browns.

Mahomes said that he received electric stimulation for his ankle and that he kept ice on it for quite a while after the Browns game.

The Chiefs face a rough schedule ahead of them in terms of both teams and timing. They'll face the Houston Texans this Saturday then have a drastically quick turnaround, facing the Pittsburgh Steelers that following Wednesday, giving them just four days rest.

"Let's just see what he does (in practice)," said head coach Andy Reid.

Unless Mahomes can't go, veteran backup Carson Wentz will look to fill the starting position for what looks like just a week since Mahomes is progressing well in his recovery.

"I feel (my ankle) responded really well (during practice)," Mahomes said Tuesday. "My hope is to go out there to play. The reason you play this game is to push to play."

"I want to be able to move," Mahomes said. "I want to be able to get out of the way. (Houston's) is a good pass rush, a good defense. They fly around. You don't want to go out there and put yourself in harm's way. Obviously, it's football and you're going to take hits, but you want to be able to protect yourself. So that'll be where I'm at and I don't want to limit the game plan."

If he gets the green light from the training staff, Mahomes will be going up a brutal Texans pass rush after already being knocked down 12 times against Cleveland.

Houston boasts a pass-rushing tandem of Danielle Hunter (12.0) and Will Anderson Jr. (10.0), making the Texans the only team in the NFL that has a duo of pass rushers with more than 10 sacks each.

Entering the game, the Chiefs (12-1) remain the top seed in the AFC while the Texans (9-5) try to catch up to the Bills for a possible number two seed in the playoffs after already clinching the AFC South.
