The Cleveland Browns have hired former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their new head coach.

Todd Monken, 59, previously served as the Cleveland Browns' offensive coordinator in 2019. Monken left the Browns following a 6-10 season to join Kirby Smart at the University of Georgia, where the Illinois native won two national championships.

The 59-year-old beats out Browns DC Jim Schwartz, who was considered the favourite for the job, and Los Angeles Rams offensive assistant Nate Sheelhaase in the head coaching race.

Monken has become the 11th head coach since the Browns rejoined the league in 1999 and the 19th in franchise history.

The experienced Monken will replace former two-time AP NFL Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski, who was fired on January 5th after a 5-12 season and six years in charge.

Track record

Todd Monken joined the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 after OC Greg Roman was fired. In his first season as the Ravens' offensive coordinator, the team made the AFC Championship Game, which they lost 17-10. Monken was widely criticized after the loss, with fans and experts upset about the abandonment of the top-ranked rushing offense.

In 2025, Monken had to deal with injuries to two-time MVP Lamar Jackson, who missed four games and played through several with lingering injuries. The Ravens finished with the 11th-ranked scoring offense and 16th in total offense.

In his three season with the Ravens, Monken's unit ranked sixth, first and 16th in total offense, and fourth, third and 11th in scoring offense.

The Cleveland Browns will be Monken's second head coaching job, after coaching the Southern Miss Golden Eagles from 2013 to 2015. During his time in Hattiesburg, the Golden Eagles went 13-25, with Monken finishing his tenure with a 9-5 season and a 46-33 loss to Washington in the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

Monken started his coaching career in 1989 as a graduate assistant at DII school Grand Valley State.

Two coachless teams left

With the Browns' hiring of Todd Monken, the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders are the last two teams currently without a head coach.
