The under-fire Port Adelaide forward has stood himself down indefinitely as the AFL continues to investigate allegations of threats made by Rioli both on and off the field to opposition players.

Rioli trained with Port Adelaide on Wednesday before being interviewed by the AFL investigations team probing his conduct in light of further allegations that he had also threatened an opposition player during their Round 3 loss to Essendon earlier this year as well as their Round 9 victory over Geelong in 2024.

It is understood that the AFL were not aware of the previous incidents when they chose not to hand down a sanction for Rioli's text message to a Western Bulldogs player which allegedly threatened Bailey Dale, who he had struck off the ball during their 90-point loss to the Dogs in Ballarat.

That fresh information could spark a significant punishment for Rioli if found guilty of multiple instances of misconduct, though on-field abuse is often treated much differently to off-field conduct by the league.

Rioli has chosen to make himself unavailable for selection for this weekend's Showdown 57 against Adelaide to prioritise his personal wellbeing as he awaits the results of the investigation.

It would be the first game of 2025 that the small forward has missed, having booted 13 goals so far for the Power this season.
