35-year-old Bottas last raced in 2024 for Sauber and this year is a reserve driver for Mercedes, for whom he finished second twice and third twice in the drivers' championship between 2017 and 2021.
Turning down the chance to race in IndyCar, Bottas has made no secret of his desire to return to the grid in 2026.
With much speculation that Cadillac will look for an experienced head to steer their new venture, the 10-time Grand Prix race winner is seen as many people's favourite for one of the two berths.
That includes former driver Mika Salo, who told Helsingin Sanomat, "A new team, so experience is an asset. Valtteri has good experience from Mercedes. Now he has been able to feel and watch from the sidelines in peace and has not driven.
"I think an experienced driver like Valtteri is absolutely the right choice," he added.
Bottas, who made his F1 debut for Williams in 2013, has added plenty of fuel to the fire with videos of himself on social media in the United States, taking a look at some Cadillac cars!
2025 marks an unusual year in modern Formula 1, in that there is no Finnish representation among the full-time drivers. Yet, Salo believes Bottas' nationality could be an advantage for the new American team.
"Finns are good at working. No politics, just getting straight to the point! Finnishness would fit in really well with a new team like this."
