The Danish Badminton national team will be handicapped by the absence of doubles' profile, Anders Skaarup, as they travel to Azerbaijan for the European Championships.

Skaarup returned from tournaments in Asia with an elbow injury, and according to Skaaarup he has been struggling to recover from the injury.

"I would have liked to have played the Danish - and European Championships, but I also have to face that I am not ready to take part in those championships. I am not there at all in my rehabilitation", says Skaarup to TV2 Sport.

"Unfortunately, I am further away than I had hoped. It hurts. T would otherwise had been fun to take part.

The injury to Anders Skaarup means that Mads Vestergaard has been called up for the squad for mixed teams. However, this does not necessarily mean that Vestergaard will partner up with Kim Astrup

Anders Skaarup is really struggling to recover from the injury and occasionally the pain has been so bad that he hasn't been able to take milk out of the fridge.

"I have some kind of tennis elbow and there are many medical terms I don't know, but I can just say that it hurts a lot and has been harder to get rid of than I expected. Now I hope that the next few weeks can make a difference for me."

The tournament for mixed teams starts on February 12, and Denmark has been drawn in a group with Spain, England and host nation, Azerbaijan.

Denmark has won the European Championships in five successive years and won 14 out of the last 15 titles.
