Danish World No. 3, defending champion in Indonesian Open, Anders Antonsen lost in the first round of this years tournament to Frenchman Alex Lanier 8-21, 17-21.

Anders Antonsen on Wednesday crashed out of the Indonesia Open in the Round of 32 when he, for the second time in a week, lost to the Frenchman Alex Lanier in two sets, 21-8 and 21-17.

In general, Antonsen struggled to cope with the conditions in the arena.

"I had difficulties controlling the rather fast balls and the wind there. In the first set, I think it was really difficult to play to the back line, so I couldn't control the conditions. When he (Alex Lanier ed.) won Singapore last week, which is also notorious for being gusty in terms of wind and conditions, he was also going to be good here", said Antonsen to TV2 Sport after the match.

The 21-year-old Frenchman, who is ranked eighth in the world, won over Antonsen in the quarter-final at the Singapore Open on Friday. Lanier ended up winning the tournament, with the final being played on Sunday.

You would think that the physical efforts from Singapore would weigh heavily on the young Frenchman, but in Wednesday's match, he looked fresh and was far better than Antonsen.

The Dane took the first two points, but then things started to go wrong. Lanier dominated and took an 11-3 lead. Antonsen then managed to improve a little in the first set, but the gap was too big, and the Frenchman took a convincing set win.

In the second set, it was a more even match. Antonsen took the lead 16-15, but then Lanier again gained the upper hand and took five points in a row before finally closing out the match.
