Denmark's national badminton team failed to beat Indonesia in the last group match at the Sudirman Cup, which is the World Championship for national mixed teams.
After four matches, the match was decided in Indonesia's favor with a 3-1 scoreline.
Indonesia thus won the group ahead of Denmark, but both nations continue to the quarter-finals. However, Denmark, as runner-up, will face a somewhat more difficult opponent in the next phase. China and South Korea are possible opponents.
In Thursday's match, Denmark otherwise got an excellent start, when the mixed doubles with Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund won their match against Rinov Rivaldy/Gloria Widjajawith with 22-20, 21-23, 21-16 after a close match.
Anders Antonsen was expected to double the Danish lead, as he was a clear favorite against world number 33, Alwi Farhan, but Antonsen failed to live up to expectations against the 19-year-old losing 17-21, 21-15, 17-21.
In the third match, Line Kjaersfeldt was faced a very difficult task against the world number 11, Putri Kusuma Wardani, and Kjaersfeldt was basically humiliated scoring only 11 points in the entire match.
Then it was up to the men's doubles with Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup to keep Denmark in the match, but they lost to Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Daniel Marthin 16-21, 18-21, just like they did at All England in March.
The quarter-finals will be played on Friday.
