There are still four matches left in the team match against Taiwan, but with Antonsen's victory, the Danes are assured of finishing among the top two in the group, which gives them a place in the quarter-final.
Before the last group matches on Wednesday, much had to go wrong if the Danes weren't going to proceed to the quarter-finals. The only thing that could have thwarted that was a 0-5 defeat to Taiwan, while South Korea had to beat Sweden 5-0.
Anders Antonsen ensured that it did not take long before the quarter-final ticket was secured.
The Dane, who is ranked third in the world, played a distinguished first set against the world No. six. Antonsen played with lots variety and made Chou Tien-chen chase the game around the court.
In the second set, however, the roles were reversed, and now it was the Danes' turn to look for solutions. Antonsen never found them, and consequently, the game had to be decided in a third set.
In the third set, Antosnen recovered his rhythm from the first set. Four successive Danish points gave Antonsen an 11-8 lead at the break, and from there on Antonsen never looked back.
The Dane took a 20-13 lead and converted his third match point.
Denmark still has first place to play for in the remaining matches against Taiwan.
This will probably give them an easier opponent in the quarter-finals, where a draw will be made to determine which team they will face.
