The Athletics and designated hitter Brent Rooker (30) agreed to a five-year, $60 million contract extension on Tuesday.

The extension includes a $10 million signing bonus. Rooker can make up to $92 million in incentives over the next six years.

Rooker is coming off a breakout year where he set career highs across the board. The Athletics' star player slashed .293/.365/.562/.927 last season with 39 home runs and 119 RBI.

Rooker is entering his sixth season after hopping around his first four years between the Minnesota Twins, San Diego Padres, and Kansas City Royals before eventually joining the Athletics in 2023 where he started to find his footing.

Rooker was 10th in AL MVP voting this past season but took home his first Silver Slugger award. Despite putting up fantastic numbers, some thought Rooker was snubbed of his second straight All-Star nomination after not making the AL roster this past season.

The Germantown, Tennessee native was taken in the 38th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the Twins but decided to play in college at Mississippi State University for one more season. A year later he re-entered the draft and was taken 35th overall in the first round by, again, the Twins.

Now, Rooker will be leading the Athletics as they're set to play in Sacramento this season after leaving the city of Oakland.
