Joey Gallo announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he will be making the switch from outfielder to pitcher after being released by the Chicago White Sox.

Chicago granted his release per his request after bringing him on board with a minor league deal earlier in the offseason. He went 2 for 20 at the plate with 11 strikeouts this spring.

But the news still comes as a surprise from a two-time Gold Glove outfielder who is predominantly known for hitting home runs.

He originally posted a video saying "Goodbye outfielder" before clarifying that he's now moving to the mound.

"Just talking to Joey and talking to him this morning, just came to a mutual agreement that that was the best thing," said White Sox manager Will Venable. "Wish him luck as he starts a new chapter as a pitcher."

The now 11-year veteran has yet to hit over .200 in a season since 2019, also coming off a season where he hit .161 with 102 strikeouts in 260 plate appearances.
