The deal includes an opt-out after the first year. Pederson declined his $14 million option with the Arizona Diamondbacks to become a free agent this offseason.
The lefty veteran had a resurgence year after 2023, hitting career highs in batting average (.275), on-base percentage (.393), and OPS (.908) on top of 23 home runs and 64 RBI.
Pederson adds a nice bat to a Rangers lineup that ranked 21st in batting average and runs, 18th in home runs, and 23rd in OPS last season. Texas finished the 2024 season with a 78-84 record, missing the playoffs one year removed from winning the 2023 World Series.
Pederson spent the first seven years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers before making his way to the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, San Francisco Giants, and Arizona Diamondbacks. Now, the 2x All-Star will spend a whole season with an American League team for the first time in his career.
