In Flashscore's weekly feature, we take a brief look at the big talking points of the last seven days in the NBA. The Dallas Mavericks have continued their incredible run, while Nikola Jokic (29) continues to prove why he is out of this world.

Team of the Week

The Dallas Mavericks have made this section in back-to-back weeks now after registering four wins from four, including a thrilling 121-116 win over The Memphis Grizzlies which saw them qualify for the NBA Cup quarter-finals.

Dallas have won their last seven games in a row, and have won 11 of their last 12. A team which many saw as one of the favourites to win the title this year are flying now after a sluggish start to the season, and with Luka Doncic now back to his best after injury, they look formidable.

Kyrie Irving continues to be brilliant and looks so settled in Dallas, P.J. Washington has been one of the best defenders in the league this season, while quality players like Dereck Lively, Daniel Gafford, Quentin Grimes, Naji Marshall, Klay Thompson and Spencer Dinwiddie are all contributing to one of the deepest rosters in the entire league.

In a packed Western Conference, the Mavs are currently in fourth, but the way they are playing, they are likely to climb even higher.

Underachievers of the Week

It has been a tough time lately for the Los Angeles Lakers and their rookie coach JJ Redick. With just three wins in their last 10 games and three losses in the last week, the Lakers are now looking like just a play-in team despite a fast start to their campaign.

A 41-point loss to the Miami Heat was humiliating, and a tight overtime defeat to the Atlanta Hawks would have really stung. Defensively, they have real problems and are the fifth-worst franchise in the NBA in that department according to the metrics.

They will need to find a way to solve these deficiencies quickly, otherwise it could be set to be another underwhelming season.

Player of the Week

What else is there to say about Nikola Jokic? A generational player who just seems to be getting better and better. Despite being a three-time NBA MVP, NBA Finals MVP and NBA champion, he may be having his best season to date.

On Saturday, Jokic registered a career-high 56 points against the Washington Wizards, and 24 hours later, followed that up with 48 points against the Hawks.

Before that, he had triple-doubles against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers and scored 38 points against the Golden State Warriors.

Jokic is averaging 32.3 points, 13.6 rebounds and 10.2 assists this year. He is second in the league in points, first in rebounds and second in assists. Just startling numbers, especially considering his Denver Nuggets are nowhere near the side that won the title two years ago, or even the team that reached the Western Conference semi-final last year.

The best player in the world by some distance.

Play of the Week

Recently, the Memphis Grizzlies' star man Ja Morant - who is known for his freakish athleticism - said he would be dunking less in an attempt to protect himself and stay healthy.

But this week's play of the week does, in fact, come from Ja, who produced a truly incredible reverse dunk against the defending champions, the Boston Celtics, as he helped guide his team to a brilliant win.

Story of the Week

Chris Paul is one of the best point guards to ever play the game, and despite many mocking him for never winning an NBA Championship, he has undoubtedly had a hall-of-fame career. And he made more history on Sunday.

The San Antonio Spurs beat the New Orleans Pelicans, and in the process, Chris Paul picked up 10 assists, moving himself to second in the all-time rankings to 12,099 assists past Jason Kidd.

A remarkable feat for one of the league's greatest-ever playmakers, the only player ahead of him now is John Stockton, who has a whopping 15,806 dimes.
