Team of the Week
The New York Knicks are a team in fabulous form. They have been an offensive force of nature this season, with the second-best offensive rating in the league (120). Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns continue to lead the way, and in the last week, the team's results have been flawless.
A thrilling 117-114 win on Christmas day against the San Antonio Spurs was the highlight, while they also claimed crushing victories over the Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic.
In an Eastern Conference that is considerably weaker than the West, they should easily finish inside the top three and, as a result, will think they have a solid chance of returning to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999.
Underachievers of the Week
Unfortunately, it will have to be the Sacramento Kings once more.
It's been a torrid season for the Kings, and things are just going from bad to worse. They may have only lost twice in two games last week, but a defeat to the Detroit Pistons after leading by 10 points with less than three minutes left was enough for the franchise to pull the trigger, surprisingly - and perhaps unfairly - firing coach Mike Brown.
Brown was named Coach of the Year in his first season in Sacramento, guiding them to a third-place finish with a 48-34 record. It ended a 16-season drought without making the playoffs - the longest in NBA history.
However, following a five-game winless run a season record of 13 wins and 18 losses, they decided enough was enough. Assistant Doug Christie took over against the Lakers, a game which they went on to lose 132-122. Tough times for the Kings.
Player of the Week
There's not much else to say about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The Oklahoma City Thunder were unfortunate not to be named the team of the week, but there was no way SGA wasn't going to be ignored here.
A consistent points-scoring machine and a leading contender to be named MVP, the mid-range maestro racked up 41 points against the Washington Wizards, 45 against the Indiana Pacers and 35 against the Memphis Grizzlies in what was a statement win for the Thunder.
Currently the favourites to get out of the West, OKC will be relying on the sheer class of Shai over the coming months.
Play of the Week
As mentioned earlier, the Pistons mounted an incredible comeback to stun the Kings 114-113. And the hero of that game was Jaden Ivey.
Trailing by three with just seconds left, the guard created contact while shooting from beyond the arc, nailing an incredible three-pointer before scoring his free throw to steal the win.
Story of the Week
The Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns have produced an exciting rivalry over the last few years, and there was further drama between the franchises on Saturday.
Suns centre Jusuf Nurkic was penalised after committing an aggressive offensive foul on the Mavs' Daniel Gafford. Naji Marshall wasn't happy, and as the pair squared up, Nurkic slapped him, before Marshall retaliated with a punch.
Marshall's teammate P.J. Washington then joined in, pushing Nurkic to the floor.
All three of the players were ejected, with Marshall picking up a four-game suspension and P.J. one game. Bizarrely, despite instigating the whole thing, Nurkic was suspended for three games.
The Mavericks went on to win the game 98-89.
