The UEFA Champions League third qualifying round kicked off on Tuesday and Wednesday, as 20 teams continued their push for a spot in the league phase. Here is one stat after each match.

Champions Path: Red Star in command

3 - Tuesday was the third time in the Champions League era that Malmo's first leg match in a tie ended goalless as neither they nor FC Kobenhavn could score in the match. The good news for the Swedes is that on both previous occasions - in 2015/16 versus Zalgiris and 2014/15 against Ventspils - they managed to advance by winning the return leg away. Could history repeat itself?

0 - Following their 1-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava, with the winner coming via a 90th minute penalty, Kairat have managed to not to concede at home in UCL qualifying so far. They will have to be weary though: they also won the first leg against Artmedia Bratislava 20 years ago, but went out in extra time in the reverse fixture.

8 - Former European Cup winners Crvena zvezda prevailed 3-1 in Poland against Lech Poznan in what was a huge result. It leaves Red Star in a good position heading into the return leg in Belgrade. For Lech, the reverse ended a run of eight consecutive wins at home during UEFA club competition qualifying.

4 - Ludogorets were held to a 0-0 stalemate versus Hungary's Ferencvaros in a match that had plenty of chances. Despite 27 shots between the sides, no one could find the breakthrough. For the Bulgarians, this is now the fourth straight two-legged tie in which they kept at least one clean sheet.

2 - Cypriot outfit Paphos are making a name for themselves. The only side left in UCL qualifying to be making their debut in the competition, they managed to stun Ukraine's Dynamo Kyiv 1-0 in Lublin. After failing to win any of their first nine European away matches, the champions of Cyprus have now come out on top in their last two games, both coming in this summer's qualifiers.

6 - Qarabag's 1-0 success at the expense of Shkendija means they are one step further to making the Champions League's playoff round for the third time in four seasons. The Azeri club, who regularly partake in the Europa League proper, remain unbeaten versus North Macedonian opposition through six matches all-time (5-1-0).

League Path: Rangers, Benfica with the advantage

20 - Club Brugge defeated RB Salzburg 1-0 on the road to give themselves a narrow advantage ahead of next week's decider. With that said, the Austrians were not without chances. They mustered 20 efforts on goal throughout the 90 minutes. Yet, they could not find their way past their Belgian opponents. It was also Salzburg's first-ever home loss against a team from Belgium.

19 - Viktoria Plzen suffered the heaviest defeat of the round, falling 3-0 at Ibrox versus Rangers. Two Djeidi Gassama goals, sandwiched by a Cyriel Dessers penalty, put the Gers in full command of the tie. Plzen, who have not lost many qualifying round matches in recent years, conceded thrice in such a game for the first time in 19 matches. The last time it happened was in the Conference League playoffs back in 2022/23 against CSKA-Sofia.

21 - Benfica's impressive record versus French opposition continues. As Aguias prevailed 2-0 at OGC Nice, with the latter's hopes of making the UCL proper for the first time looking quite unfavourable. It was the 21st time that Benfica defeated a Ligue 1 team in Europe, more than any other country.

11 Anis Hadj Moussa's 91st minute winner was enough to lift Feyenoord to a 2-1 home win over Fenerbahce. The Eredivisie side, who are trying to reach the UCL proper via the qualifiers for the first time in nearly three decades, lost both legs at this stage 11 years ago. Speaking of the number 11, that is now the number of losses Fenerbahce have suffered the hands of Dutch opponents.
