The Chicago Cubs acquired starting pitcher Michael Soroka from the Washington Nationals in a trade on Wednesday.

In return, the Nationals received Chicago's No. 14 prospect Christian Franklin (OF) and No. 13 prospect Ronny Cruz (SS).

Soroka is 3-8 this season in 16 starts with a 4.87 earned run average, giving up 44 earned runs on 68 hits in 81.1 innings. The 27-year-old Soroko has 87 strikeouts to 14 walks, while opponents are batting .224 off of him for the second straight season.

Soroka hasn't thrown below a 4.50 ERA in a full season since 2019 as a member of the Atlanta Braves (2.68). However, the righty has only given up two runs or fewer in each of his last four starts while recording 17 strikeouts in 18 innings.

Soroka is currently on a one-year deal and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
