It is largely athletes involved in smaller sports who have excelled in the past year.
Denmark won 172 medals in 2025 which is five more than the previous record set last year, when medals from the Olympics and the Paralympics were also included in the statistics.
"The number of medals shows that great work is being done within the many different federations, and I am delighted that we are so well represented in so many sports, says Morten Molholm Hansen, director of the Danish Sports Confederation and Olympic Secretary General.
But if you scratch the surface it becomes clear that there are also worrying signs for Danish sports as the number of gold medals fell to 48 against 61 the previous year.
At the same time, the trend of recent years continues with Denmark finding it increasingly difficult to assert itself in the sports that are included in the Olympics.
"Danish elite sports is under great pressure, and even if the results list in 2025 is not alarming, we can see that both top-8 results and the number of medals within Olympic sports show a downward trend.
"If we look further into the horizon, recent years show how countries that we normally compare ourselves to are upgrading and winning more and more", says Team Denmark's sports director, Lars Balle Christensen.
