With the European football season winding down, there's another massive weekend ahead with the FA Cup final taking centre stage. Elsewhere, the PGA Championship and Italian Open offer up plenty of non-football action to enjoy, as well!

Here's what our news editors are circling in their calendars this weekend:

All weekend

Italian Open finals - from 17:00 CET on Saturday

It's a big weekend in the world of tennis, with some of the sport's biggest names looking to win one of its biggest titles, and one of them out to make history.

First up is the women's final of the Italian Open on Saturday, in which world number four Coco Gauff will go up against two-time champion Elina Svitolina.

Svitolina hasn't lifted a WTA 1000 title since prevailing in Rome eight years ago, but will fancy her chances of ending that drought. She's played stunning tennis all week, seeing off favourites Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek, and has beaten Gauff in both of their meetings in 2026, including one at the Australian Open.

The following day, history could be made on the men's side of the game. If Jannik Sinner can finish the job in his rain-interrupted clash with Daniil Medvedev on Saturday and then beat Casper Ruud in the final, he'll become just the second player ever to have won every Masters 1000 tournament after Novak Djokovic, and will have done so at a significantly younger age.

That achievement would very much establish him as one of the all-time greats at the ripe old age of 24, but Ruud shouldn't be written off whether he faces the Italian or Medvedev. With 12 clay-court titles to his name including the 2025 Madrid Masters 1000 and two French Open finals, he's a real force on the surface, as he showed in his extremely dominant semi-final win over Luciano Darderi.

That being said, only the bravest of people would bet against Sinner extending his record-breaking Masters 1000 winning streak to 34 matches, and if he does, it will be a day in the Eternal City that will go down in history.

Celtic vs Hearts - 13:30 CET

The script couldn't be more perfect. One of the best Scottish Premiership title races in history going down to the final day is epic enough, but the two teams battling for the Scottish crown facing off in a do-or-die showdown is just pure cinema.

The holders Celtic have the home advantage, but Hearts lead the championship by one point and therefore only need to hold Celtic to a draw to clinch the title.

Celtic, however, might well fancy their chances of bringing a heartbreaking end to Hearts' fairytale campaign after an impressive run of wins. Martin O'Neil's side backed up a brilliant Old Firm derby win last weekend with a dramatic 3-2 win at Motherwell in midweek after Kelechi Iheanacho netted a 99th-minute winner from the spot.

Knowing that only a win will do and with an electric Celtic Park behind them on Saturday lunchtime, you can fully expect the hosts to make a fast start and look to play to the crowd from minute one. Whether a Hearts side new to being in this kind of situation can cope with that intensity and the pressure of a title on the line is a genuine unknown.

Hearts can take comfort from the fact that they have always found a response after any mini-setbacks this season. The latest example was when they were held to a 1-1 draw last weekend away at tricky customers Motherwell before responding during the week with an emphatic 3-0 win against Falkirk to ensure they still hold the advantage heading into a fascinating decider.

This is simply not a match you will want to miss as the holders and 55-time Scottish Premiership champions take on the four-time champions in the final chapter of this David versus Goliath story that has shone a light on Scottish football unlike ever before.

Bundesliga final round - 15:30 CET

The Bundesliga season draws to a thrilling conclusion on Saturday afternoon, with plenty still to be decided at both ends of the table.

In the fight to avoid relegation, Wolfsburg, Heidenheim and St. Pauli are locked on 26 points apiece at the bottom of the standings, with all three sides targeting a 16th-placed finish and a potential reprieve in the relegation/promotion play-off.

St. Pauli host Wolfsburg in a high-stakes affair in Hamburg, while Heidenheim - who have won three of their last five league outings - take on mid-table Mainz

The battle for the European qualification spots is just as exciting, with Stuttgart needing a victory at Frankfurt to secure a top-four finish and Champions League qualification. The Eagles have plenty to play for themselves, though, as they look to better Freiburg’s result and sneak into seventh.

Elsewhere, Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen will be hoping to pounce on any kind of slip-up from Stuttgart and gatecrash the top four. Christian Ilzer’s side travel to Borussia Monchengladbach, while Die Werkelf host Hamburg.

Make sure you tune in for the drama!

Chelsea vs Man City (FA Cup final) - 16:00 CET

Manchester City became the first team ever to reach four consecutive FA Cup finals when they edged Southampton in their semi-final in April. However, despite that success, they have actually lost the last two editions of English football's showpiece event at Wembley.

As a result of that, and given that the Cityzens look likely to be pipped to the Premier League title by Arsenal, Pep Guardiola’s men will be desperate to claim one of the oldest pieces of silverware around for the eighth time in the club’s history, to go with their League Cup triumph earlier this year.

Two trophies will certainly make this season feel like a success for City, even if they don’t win the league. And with questions hanging over Guardiola’s future, it might also be the perfect send-off for the legendary manager…

Standing in City’s way are one of the more mercurial sides of the season: Chelsea. The Blues have parted ways with two managers already this season, seem to have fallen away in the race for Champions League football, and yet find themselves on the brink of a ninth FA Cup win.

Put simply, the league season has been a minor disaster for Chelsea, but if interim head coach Calum McFarlane does lift the trophy this Saturday, they will at least have that to hang onto, plus a guarantee of Europa League football next season.

The FA Cup final is an institution and a match you never want to miss. With two Premier League giants going head-to-head and plenty on the line, it’s essential viewing!

Montreal Canadiens vs. Buffalo Sabres (Game 6) - 02:00 CET

After a dominant 6-3 win over the Sabres in Game 5, the Canadiens have a chance to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2021 - the same year they lost in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Rookie goaltender Jakub Dobes has been the story of the playoffs for the Habs. He's coming off a 33-save game in which he became the fifth rookie goaltender in the Canadiens' 116-year history to record at least seven wins in a single postseason. Should he win eight more (has a chance for nine more), he'll tie the legend Patrick Roy for the most ever by a rookie in Canadiens history.

As for the Sabres, they haven't advanced to the Conference Finals since 2007. They are 1-14 all-time when trailing a playoff series 3-2 (1-4 starting as the home team). Meanwhile, the Habs are 28-3 when leading a series 3-2 (8-1 when starting as the road team).

As history favours the Habs in this situation, Buffalo needs to make sure to get their abysmal power play (14.3%) in order if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive and send the series back home for Game 7.

They are the only team remaining in the playoffs that has yet to see one of their players reach at least five goals. This game would be a good time to change that.

Final round of the PGA Championship - from 16:00 CET

Wind and tricky greens made the opening rounds of the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania an intriguing watch, and the scoring reflected that, around the par 70 course.

Going into the weekend, plenty of players will be in contention for the second major of the year; even Rory McIlroy, who was less than impressed with his efforts early, will fancy his chances given the congested scoreboard.

Plenty have put stock into Cameron Young, with the American winning on the PGA Tour a week before this major, and he's well placed after a strong recovery from a difficult opening day.

Another player to look out for is, of course, defending champion Scottie Scheffler. The world number one had moments of trouble on Thursday; however, he recovered well to earn a share of the lead at -3 after the first round and stayed towards the top of the leaderboard in the second.

This is not a course that needs overpowering, so expect some thrilling, close-quarter duels with plenty of players at the top of the leaderboard come the end of Sunday.

Play-off anyone?
