The final day of the domestic season in three of the biggest leagues in Europe is no ordinary weekend, and the conclusion of the 2025/26 season in Spain, Italy and Spain is an exciting headline act to a huge weekend of sport to look forward to.

Here's what our news editors are circling in their calendars this weekend:

All weekend

Serie A final round

Serie A have two enthralling races that will go down to the wire on Sunday night, with the season finishing at 20:45 CET. Six of the league's 20 sides will enter the round with something meaningful to play for.

For AC Milan, AS Roma, Como, and Juventus, Champions League football is on the line. Two of the four will join champions Internazionale and Napoli in the UCL league phase next September. The other two will have to settle for Europa League football.

Milan and Roma, both on 71 points, enter the weekend with the advantage of knowing that victories over Cagliari and Verona, respectively, will seal their returns to Europe's elite. Falter, that opens the door for one - or even both - of Como and Juve.

The Bianconeri lost at home to Fiorentina last weekend, surrendering their advantage in this race. They end their season with a derby against midtable Torino, making things even more fascinating.

As for the Biancoblu, their historic campaign means they will participate in a UEFA club competition for the first time next term. A trip to Cremonese is what awaits them on Sunday.

Remarkably, all four sides competing for UCL football could end up level on 71 points, should Milan and Roma draw while Como and Juve win. In such a scenario, where head-to-head is used among the four clubs, Milan and Como would enjoy the perks of the Champions League.

That is not the only drama going on in the league on Sunday, as Cremonese and Lecce are looking to maintain their top-flight status. The former will have it rough against Como, while the latter welcomes a Genoa side hoping to finish their season on a high.

The Giallorossi enter the round with a one-point lead over the Grigiorossi, who had a strong start to the year before dropping off.

An additional playoff match will be required should the pair finish level on points, which would occur should Cremonese draw and Lecce lose. This already happened three years ago, involving Spezia and Verona. Otherwise, it is Lecce who know that they have their fate in their own hands. Win, and they will avoid the drop once again.

We are truly set for a dramatic round of footy in the Serie A to wrap up the year. Fans will surely not be left disappointed with what will ensue on Sunday night.

LaLiga final round

The LaLiga season comes to an end this weekend, and we have a blockbuster Saturday night in Spain as a result, with nine out of 10 last-round fixtures kicking off simultaneously at 21:00 CET!

Ok, so the title is sewn up with Barcelona winning back-to-back crowns, and the Champions League places are all wrapped up, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing at stake, far from it, in fact.

Celta Vigo (6th) and Getafe (7th) can both end up in sixth place, and thus in next year’s Europa League. Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano (8th), Valencia (9th), and Espanyol (11th) are still vying for the Conference League berth.

It should be noted that if Rayo wins the Conference League final next week, an extra spot will open up for the UECL, making points all the more vital for the chasing pack this weekend.

Things are much tenser at the bottom, however. Levante (15th), Osasuna (16th), Elche (17th), Girona (18th) and Mallorca (19th) can all get relegated going into the final round. Indeed, two of those five must join Real Ovideo in dropping down to LaLiga2 next season.

If you’re going to pick out just one relegation-battle match to watch, it’s probably Girona vs Elche, with the Catalans needing to win to stay up and Elche needing not to lose to keep themselves safe.

Mallorca are in deep trouble but have arguably the easiest task, hosting Oviedo, and a win for them could plunge Osasuna and/or Levante into the mix, with both sides facing pretty tricky away days (at Getafe and Betis, respectively).

The nightmare, or dream, scenario (depending on how you look at it) is that if both Girona and Mallorca win, and Levante and Osauna lose, four teams will end up on 42 points, with two going down based on their weaker head-to-head records in a ‘mini-league’ of those clubs that finish level on points.

This could be an all-time heartbreaker for one or two teams!

Hull vs Middlesbrough - Championship play-off final - 16:30 CET

After one of the most chaotic and unprecedented two weeks in Football League history, it's finally time to turn our attention to the action on the pitch at Wembley.

Hull City booked their spot after beating Millwall (remember that?) in the semi-finals, but for Middlesbrough, the journey to battle for Premier League promotion has been anything but straightforward.

Spied on before the first leg by a Southampton intern, beaten after extra time in the second leg, and then reinstated after the EFL's landmark expulsion of the Saints, Boro will feel justice has finally prevailed.

Whether you believe this fixture should be happening at all is now of no matter, and both sides head to the capital with the hopes they can win the most lucrative game in world football.

Hull will feel they are at a disadvantage heading into the game. They were only told, officially, on Wednesday that they would even be playing Boro, rather than Southampton, meaning their preparation for the encounter will be heavily hampered. Middlesbrough, who continued to train as normal even after the semi-final defeat, have had extra time to prepare for the Tigers.

They, then, will be favourites for the clash. They finished above Hull City in the league table, but the pair haven't played since December, so much could have changed since their last game.

It's been one of the most controversial weeks in the history of the Football League. This game feels like an afterthought, but for one of these teams, it will be a day of glory, a return to England's top flight and a projected £200million in the back pocket. What more could you want in what is always a tense, thrilling affair?

Barcelona vs OL Lyonnes - Women's Champions League final - 18:00 CET

The first season of the UEFA Women's Champions League under its current format culminates in Oslo, as Barcelona face OL Lyonnes.

Before Arsenal won last year's edition, Barca and Lyon had combined for the last nine titles in the competition. Now, for the fourth time in the UWCL history, the pair will face off in the showpiece event.

This is the sixth year in a row in which Barca are involved in the last game of the season. They have prevailed in three of the last five, with Pere Romeu's side going unbeaten in the UWCL this term.

They already beat a French team in the tournament, getting past Paris FC during the league phase. They won eight of their 10 games this campaign, scoring 37 times in the process.

While Barca have had a smoother run to the final, the same could not be said for OL Lyonnes. Also going unbeaten in the league phase, the French side, who still have their domestic final to contest, lost the first legs in both of their quarter-final and semi-final ties.

But they found a way through on both occasions to reach their 12th final. This is the third straight UWCL final that Lyonnes will play against Barca.

Across the three other meetings between these two at this stage of the competition, Lyonnes won two of them, back in 2019 and 2022. The latter edition was the last time they lifted the continental trophy. Barca, on the other hand, got the better of their Premiere Ligue opponents in the 2024 showpiece.

It should be a thrilling end to what has been an exciting season of women's football in Europe. The two best teams square off once more, with continental glory on the line.

Premier League final day - 17:00 CET

With Arsenal being crowned Premier League champions on Tuesday, there is one less narrative to look forward to this Sunday. However, the relegation battle is set to be an absolute nail-biter, while the fight for European football continues.

Tottenham Hotspur face the very real possibility of being relegated to the Championship, which would be an unprecedented disaster. They are one of six clubs to have not left the Premier League since its emergence. They host Everton, knowing that a point would be enough to keep them in the top division.

However, a loss would open the door for West Ham to stay up. The Hammers will be hoping for former boss David Moyes to do them a favour, and if they can then beat Leeds, they will avoid the drop. Expect some twists and turns.

The battle for Europe is an interesting one. Barring a huge goal difference swing, Liverpool are likely to qualify for the Champions League. But, if Europa League champions Aston Villa lose to Manchester City - who will be saying goodbye to Pep Guardiola - and Liverpool win to leapfrog them, suddenly sixth place will also qualify for the Champions League.

Currently, Bournemouth occupy sixth and head to Nottingham Forest. If they avoid a loss, they may qualify for Europe's premier competition, which would be a truly remarkable achievement. Brighton are right on their tail in seventh, and they go head-to-head with Manchester United. Meanwhile, Chelsea are in the Conference League spot.

Brighton and Sunderland will also still have hope of qualifying for Europe if they can win and results go their way.
