Al Ahly is by far the most successful club in Egyptian history. The merit list counts 45 national championships. The last three championships have come in the last three seasons, so it's a heavy legacy for Jess Thorup to continue.
Thorup has previously won the Danish Superliga twice, with FC Midtjylland in 2017 and FC Copenhagen in the 2021-22 season.
He also guided Denmark’s Under-21 national team to the UEFA European Championship semi-finals and qualification for the Olympic Games.
Al Ahly had been searching for a permanent coach following the appointment of interim manager Emad El Nahas last month.
