Juventus have spent all summer weighing up a move for Guglielmo Vicario and suddenly the situation has taken a major step forward.

There has been an indication for weeks from the player that he would be willing to make the switch. The problem has been convincing Spurs to allow the transfer to open up on suitable club terms.

Juve always knew they could satisfy the goalkeeper on a personal level, but have had to wait to discover whether a loan deal could be negotiated.

At the same time as they have held interest in Vicario, Juventus have pondered a move for Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa. That deal had been progressing over the weekend, only for Juve to now pull back on a €10 million offer for the keeper.

It is anticipated they are going to sign Vicario instead, as the loan deal they have been pursuing has begun to open up.

We revealed last month how Vicario had emerged as Juve's top alternative to Martinez - and the goalkeeper was in the stands as Spurs beat Hoffenheim 3-0 in a home friendly on Saturday.

Antonin Kinsky is set to be Tottenham's first-choice goalkeeper as it stands.

Juve's intention has always been to sign Italian stopper Vicario with an option to buy - rather than an obligation - and on Sunday those conversations were continuing.

They are not in a financial position to commit to a purchase at the moment but would be keen for him to become their long-term No.1 in Turin eventually. Vicario was previously with Empoli before moving to Tottenham in 2023.

Tottenham have transfer obligations of their own to pursue this week, with deals for Savinho and Cody Gakpo being worked on.
