The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 in Game 2 of the American League Championship Series on Tuesday.

Game recap and highlights

Both teams were in a pitcher's duel through the first three shutout innings. Each went through their first four batters in the first inning. Cleveland had a chance in the top of the second with runners on first and second, but didn't capitalize.

Cleveland starting pitcher Parker Messick picked off Ben Williamson to end the second before both teams had a four-hitter scoreless third inning. Messick eventually finished the night after five innings, giving up three unearned runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

But it was in the fourth inning that the Rays finally broke through and put up the game's first runs on the board.

Chandler Simpson hit a two-out single to put him and Victor Mesa Jr. at the corners. Williams then made up for his previous base-running error after bringing in Mesa Jr. from third to make it 1-0 thanks to an unconventional Jose Ramirez error at third.

Williamson advanced to second, while Simpson wound up at third. Liam Hicks brought in both during the next at-bat with a two-run single to make it a 3-0 game.

It continued to be a Peralta masterclass, and it came with the help of his star third baseman.

Junior Caminero had one of the biggest highlights of Game 2 after he snagged a line drive in the top of the fifth inning before hitting the iconic Dikembe Mutombo celebration.

Peralta had never finished six complete innings in his previous seven Postseason starts.

But he finished Game 2 with six shutout innings, putting up six strikeouts and giving up only four hits (and two walks) to a Guardians team that put up 14 hits in Game 1.

Kevin Kelly came in for Peralta and immediately found himself in trouble. With two on and two out, the Rays brought in lefty Ian Seymour for Kelley to face lefty Chase DeLauter, and it backfired after a couple of pitches.

DeLauter sent a frozen rope down the third-base line for an RBI double to make it 3-1 with runners on second and third. But Seymour got himself out of the jam after striking out Jo Adell, who hit over .300 against lefties during the regular season.

Seymour settled down by finishing the eighth in 1-2-3 fashion before the American League's top closer, Bryan Baker, came in to finish things off for his fourth save of the Postseason with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.

Game 3 between the Guardians and Rays will take place on Thursday, October 15th, as the series heads to Cleveland.
