Austrian national team coach Ales Pajovic takes over SG Flensburg-Handewitt after the club sacked Nicolej Krickau earlier in the season. The 46-year-old has been given a contract until 2027, the handball Bundesliga club announced on Thursday.

Until the end of the season, Ales Pajovic maintain dual responsibilities, coaching both the Austrian handball team and SG Flensburg-Handewitt.

"He convinced us with his philosophy and his vision of working together in Flensburg. We also liked his way of communicating. He is a very good coach and we see potential and development in him," said sporting director Ljubomir Vranjes.

Pajovic commented on his appointment: "I've watched a lot of SG matches and still see room for improvement. We have a top team here with great potential. With a team like this, the aim must be to play at the top. We have to put the past behind us and now look forward together."

Coach with title experience

As a player, Pajovic was a three-time Champions League winner with BM Ciudad Real and won multiple titles in Slovenia and Spain.

He was under contract with both SC Magdeburg (2011-2013) and TuS N-Lübbecke (2013-2015). He has been national coach of the Austrian national handball team since 2019.

SG Flensburg-Handewitt is currently fifth in the German Handball Bundesliga.
