Danish international handballer Emil Madsen could be doubtful for the European Championships to be played in January next year as the THW Kiel player has sustained a knee injury which will keep him out until the end of the year.

THW Kiel's Danish star player Emil Madsen was not in the squad when the club drew 31-31 with Rhein-Neckar Lowen on Sunday.

Emil Madsen did not feature in the squad because of a knee injury.

According to Kieler Nachrichten, it now turns out that the damage to Madsen's knee is more serious than anticipated.

"Emil may not be able to help us anymore this calendar year due to a cartilage injury in his knee," said sporting director Viktor Szilagyi to Kieler Nachrichten.

The media also reports that the Danish national team player does not need surgery.

According to Kieler Nachrichten, THW Kiel has been in contact with the staff around the Danish national team to make a plan for Madsen's rehabilitation.
