Denmark lost 26-29 to Germany in Jesper Jensen's farewell match Saturday afternoon.

Despite a good start Denmark lost 26-29 at home to Germany despite leading 15-13 at the interval.

It was Denmark's first defeat to Germany under the leadership of Jesper Jensen, who will be replaced by Helle Thomsen as Danish national team coach.

During Jensen's reign, Denmark has won silver at the European Championship twice, silver at the World Championship twice and an Olympic bronze medal.

The Danes opened Saturday's match with a fast-paced attacking game, which produced plenty of good scoring opportunities. And most of them were effectively exploited.

Helena Elver constantly kept up the pace of the Danish attack, and the slightly heavy German defense had difficulty finding solutions.

However, a high number of substitutions prevented the Danish team from maintaining timing and pace in their game, while a more aggressive German defense broke Denmark's rhythm in the last ten minutes before the break.

In addition a total of 11 Danish technical errors also allowed the German visitors to reduce the gap and at the interval Denmark led by 15-13.

Defensively, Denmark went back to a more classic 6-0 defensive formation after the break, but failed to recapture the rhythm as the Germans caught up to the Danish lead at 19-19.

It remained very close, but even with Helena Elver back on in play, Denmark could not get their attacking game going, which otherwise looked promising at the start of the match.

14 minutes before time, Germany took the lead, and the Danes were unable to turn the tide.

Denmark will not be back in action until October when Helle Thomsen will be in charge for the first time.
