After eight years, the Norwegian winger will leave the club at the end of this season.
This means that the 2024/25 season will be the last for Sebastian Barthold in Aalborg Håndbold, which he has represented since he joined the club from Norwegian Haslum in 2017.
"Sebastian will be remembered as a fantastic teammate who has contributed just as much off the field as on the field. However, all good things come to an end and we have agreed together that this summer it is time to try something new for both parties", says Aalborg Handball's director Jan Larsen.
33-year-old Sebastian Barthold has also accepted that the summer of 2025 will offer new surroundings and challenges.
"There should be no doubt that I have been, and still am, incredibly happy to play for Aalborg Handball, but I also have come to terms with that new and exciting opportunities await me elsewhere this summer, which I am also looking forward to."
"However, it is important for me to emphasize that in Aalborg I have had a lot of good experiences, made lifelong friends and not least won a lot of titles and developed a lot as a player."
"Likewise, our many fans have always supported me very much, so I am happy that there are still a few months left of the season, where I will do everything to end my time at the club in the best way - hopefully with another Danish championship, and who knows, hopefully also a third trip to the Final4 in Cologne", says Sebastian Barthold.
The Norwegian international has so far played 355 games and scored 1,232 goals in Aalborg Handball, as well as won four Danish championships, three cup titles, five Super Cups and played in two Champions League finals.
