One of the best players in the NHL, Canadian forward Mitchell Marner made the move from Toronto to Las Vegas in the summer, trading the Maple Leafs for the Golden Knights.

The productive forward, who broke the 100-point mark again last season, made his ambition to win the Stanley Cup clear by changing teams.

In this exclusive interview with Flashscore, Marner talks about his new team and much more ahead of the 2025/26 NHL season.

Do you think Vegas is one of the biggest favourites to win the Stanley Cup?

"I think yeah, I mean that's why I came to Vegas. I have strong hopes that this team's a very good contender for that Stanley Cup. But it's a long season, you don't ever know who you're going to play and you've gotta make it there yourself. So I don't really try to focus on the future, I try to focus on the here and now and there's a lot of days between then and now. We've just gotta make sure we get better every day and work to get to that ultimate goal."

If you could pick, who would you like to play alongside in offence?

"I mean, I like my teammates, Jack (Eichel) and Barbs (Ivan Barbashev). That's the great thing about this lineup: there are so many deep players and so many players who can play in different roles up and down the lineup. So yeah, I'll just stick with my linemates, Jack and Barbs."

You must have watched Vegas last season. What did you think?

"It's a big team that moves the puck very well, makes very good plays, that controls the End Zone and the D Zone very well with the puck and out. They're a hard team to play against, just for so many different reasons. I felt it when we played last year for sure."

What's it like to wear number 93 again, which you grew up with but was retired in Toronto out of respect for Doug Gilmour?

"It's great. It's a number that's meant a lot to me throughout my career and early ages, so I'm really happy to get it back. It means some pretty significant things to me so it's pretty cool."

What will you remember most from your time in Toronto?

"I mean obviously getting drafted was pretty memorable. We went through a lot of ups and downs, and obviously the downs are what really bring people together more, and we went through some tough ones. A couple of the younger guys, we all kind of grew up together and have developed a lot and have turned into young men, so those guys will always be my brothers and I wish them luck, but I'm happy to be here."

How much are you looking forward to the Olympics?

"Hopefully I make the team! I still haven't yet. Like I said, I'm just gonna be in the here and now, try to just work as hard as I can to be on that team and make it there... It's gonna be an awesome environment, and I think everyone's really looking forward to it."
