Hartman's suspension came after the team's February 1st game against the Ottawa Senators when he smashed Tim Stutzle's (23) face into the ice, which ultimately led to a game misconduct and a five-minute major penalty.
Stutzle was treated by team trainers after he began to bleed from an open wound due to the hit.
"Although I conclude that an escalation from Mr. Hartman's prior three (3) game suspension to ten (10) games is not proportional here, I find that an eight (8) game suspension is both appropriate and supported by clear and convincing evidence," said Bettman in his decision.
"(This) should be sufficient to serve as an appropriate ‘wake-up call' to Mr. Hartman, causing him to reevaluate his conduct on the ice and make positive changes to his game."
Hartman will return for the Wild's game on March 4th against the Seattle Kraken.
