Following their 3-1 defeat over the Caps, the Hurricanes have now made the ECF for the second time in the past three years.
They will go on to face the winner of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers.
So let's recap the Canes' Game 5 victory!
1st period
Jordan Staal put the Canes up on the board first with his first goal of the playoffs, not long after the Capitals failed on their first power play of the game.
But there's no doubt goaltender Logan Thompson wishes he could've had that one back.
Luckily for the Caps, Anthony Beauvillier's second goal of the playoffs tied the game up 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
The Canes could've gone up 2-1, but Thompson made an unbelievable stick save to keep the game all tied up.
Caps fans will reminisce about the save that looked eerily familiar to the one former goaltender Braden Holtby did in the Stanley Cup Finals against the Vegas Golden Knights.
The period finished with a total of 34 hits between both teams while the Canes outshot the Caps 8-4.
Carolina won 83.3 percent of the face-offs while also recording more blocked shots (8-6).
2nd Period
No goals were scored this period but that doesn't mean there wasn't any excitement.
What looked like a possible goal from Caps forward Jakob Chychrun, after a review, was called back due to an obvious offside on the Caps.
The Caps proceeded to not have a single shot on goal for the following 12 minutes of play, seeing the Canes almost double the Caps shots on net (17-9) entering the second intermission.
Both teams failed on their respective power plays, but Carolina entered the third with little left on the one they were on.
Seth Jarvis rang one off double crossbars before the period ended, almost giving the Canes a 2-1 lead.
Both teams finished the period with 64 combined hits (CAR-31, WAS-33).
3rd Period
After the Canes failed to convert on their second power play of the game, the Caps followed with yet another PP failure of their own.
But with just two minutes left to go, following a big miss by Alexander Ovechkin, the Canes took the lead after Andrei Svechnikov's eighth goal of the playoffs, leaving just Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen with more (9).
The Caps went with the empty net shortly following the goal, but with 26 seconds left, the Canes put the final nail in the coffin, ending the Caps' season with an empty-net goal by Seth Jarvis.
Carolina outshot (21-19) and outhit (46-40) the Caps while also blocking more shots (24-16).
Washington going 0-3 on the power play proved to be their ultimate downfall in Game 5 as their season comes to an end.
