For the third match in a row, the Panthers have come out on top, capitalising on their chances throughout the clash.
The game's opening goal came 14:36 into the first period. After some scrappy play near the front of the goal, Sam Reinhart played the puck to Aaron Ekblad, who shot it into the top corner. The guests were on top throughout the first period, with their goal coming from their 13th shot on net.
A three-goal second period saw Florida continue to dominate. Six minutes in, and it was 2-0. Nate Schmidt found Dmitry Kulikov by himself and the third-line defenseman's first-time shot blew past Joseph Woll and in.
Things got worse for the Leafs four minutes later. This one came off a giveaway, as Gustav Forsling made the interception before picking out Reinhart. Grabbing his second assist of the night, he played a perfect pass to Jesper Boqvist to finish off the attack.
The onslaught did not stop there. Niko Mikkola was next to join the scoring. After stealing the puck in Toronto's defensive zone, Anton Lundell played in Mikkola, who fired a low shot past Woll to make it 4-0.
Florida ended up outshooting the hosts 50-44, as the Leafs just could not convert their opportunities. Instead, they went down 5-0 when A.J. Greer was in the right place at the right time to tap the puck into the empty net.
Despite pulling Woll, a sixth would be added three minutes later. Right off the face-off, Sam Bennett flashed his attempt past Matt Murray to round out the Panthers' goals for the night.
The Maple Leafs did manage to get on the scoreboard in what could be their final home game of the season. A lovely spin from Nick Robertson allowed him to get a shot off, where he beat Sergei Bobrovksy to deny him of a second consecutive shutout.
For the first time in the series, the Panthers find themselves in front. They will take a 3-2 lead with them back to Florida as the two sides will reconvene on Friday night. It is an elimination game for the Leafs, who will need a victory to force a game seven back home next week.
Oilers secure progression
The Oilers will compete in the Western Conference Final for the third time in four years thanks to a 1-0 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.
There was little to choose between the two sides with neither able to break the deadlock in the first three periods.
The Oilers edged the first two periods, outshooting the Golden Knights in both and forcing Adin Hill into 18 saves.
It was the hosts that looked more likely to secure a win as overtime neared though with them having nine attempts to the Oilers' three in the third period.
However, they couldn't convert any of those attempts and Kasperi Kapanen finished a goalmouth scramble to give his side the series win seven minutes into overtime.
The Oilers win the series 4-1 and will face either the Dallas Stars or the Winnipeg Jets in the Western Conference Final
