Expectations were high before before Denmark's opening game at the World Championships against U.S. But the Americans never allowed the Danish hosts to get a foot in the game and prevented the partisan Danish crowd to get their hopes up as the visitors ran away with a confident 5-0 win to boost their hopes of making it to the playoffs in the tournament.

After a somewhat frustrating first period for the Americans, Cutter Gauthier managed to score his 8th career goal at the World Championships in a period which the Danes could be proud of.

They created dangerous plays in the offensive zone and basically had great control of their defense apart from a few shots on goal that Frederik Dichow was able to clean up.

In the second period the young talent within the American squad began to put on the show as Cutter Gauthier, Conor Garland, and Mike Eyssimont revealed impressive acceleration and speed to create space and opportunities to get the puck deep.

USA had 25 shots while Denmark had just 13 with 8 minutes remaining in the second period and at that time the Americans had built up a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Logan Cooley and Matthew Berniers.

After an otherwise impressive performance from Dickow, the  24-year old Boston Bruins defenseman Mason Lohrei was able to sweep the puck low and hard into the net from the blue line in the third period to make it 4-0 to silence the crowd even further.

The visitors put the icing on the cake, when Beniers ripped a beautiful shot high past Dichow and four tired Denmark players to make it 5-0

Denmark will now be looking to restore morale when they face Switzerland tomorrow.
