Steelers defeat Bengals on strip sack
Pittsburgh defensive tackle Derrick Harmon forced a strip sack on Joe Burrow with under a minute remaining in the fourth to seal the game 30-27. The Steelers improved to 2-1, while the Bengals fell to 2-1.
Starting off, it marked the Steelers' first game since September 11, 2022, when they scored more than seven points in the first quarter. Ironically, that game also came against the Bengals.
They were the only two teams to put up more than 14 points in the first half of any of the first slate of games. No other game had both teams combine for at least 20 points in the first half either.
Burrow started the game going 14-of-14 passing before finishing 28-of-37 for 282 yards and three touchdowns. Ja'Marr Chase led all receivers with 98 yards on nine receptions with a touchdown.
Meanwhile, teammate Tee Higgins made the biggest reception of the game that tied things up 17-17.
After a crucial roughing the punter in the third, the Steelers went down the field to go up 24-20. The Bengals responded when Burrow found Mike Gesicki for a touchdown to go up 27-24 before Rodgers and the Steelers responded with a touchdown of their own to make it 30-24.
Pittsburgh held on for the win in the final drive and have now won back-to-back matchups against the Bengals dating back to last season, and three of the last five.
Bills stay undefeated
Bills QB Josh Allen had about as bad a start as possible for the Bills after starting the game 2-of-6 passing with two interceptions, both from Genesis Smith.
But they still managed to go into halftime tied up 10-10 with the Chargers before pulling away with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter en route to their 26-16 win.
The Chargers committed only one turnover the entire game, and it came on a crucial shot at the end zone when Justin Herbert's pass was picked off by C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
On the ensuing drive, Buffalo scored to take a 17-13 lead before eventually finishing it off as they improved to 3-0 despite committing five turnovers.
The last time the Chargers started 0-3 was in 2017 when they finished 9-7.
Buffalo had lost 16 straight games dating back to 1997 when committing five or more turnovers. The last time they won? Against the Indianapolis Colts when Jim Harbaugh was their QB. Now, he relives history as the Chargers head coach.
Jaguars slaughter Patriots
It was all Jacksonville as they improved to 2-1 despite being outgained 317-315 by the Pats, defeating them 35-6 in the biggest blowout of the early slate.
New England QB Drake Maye committed four turnovers, including one interception to Travis Hunter in the end zone for his first career pick.
Maye now has 10 games with multiple turnovers dating back to 2024 - the most by any player in the NFL. He now also leads the league with six total turnovers, surpassing Cooper Rush.
During the game, Jacksonville kicker Cam Little missed just wide right on a 70-yard attempt, which would've broken the NFL record (68 yards) that he set last season.
Jaguars receiver Parker Washington Jr. had one of the best catches of any game today that helped put his team up 21-3. He finished with 40 yards on three receptions.
On the flip side, the Jaguars didn't allow a single Patriots rusher to hit 25 yards on the ground, holding the entire team to just 83 yards.
Around the league
The Cleveland Browns held off the Carolina Panthers 21-18 as they improved to 2-1. The last time the Browns had two wins in the first three weeks was in 2023 when they finished the season 11-6.
The Panthers outgained them 360-259, while the Browns put up a whopping 12 penalties. But Bryce Young tossed a crucial interception to Ronnie Hickman with under one minute remaining that sealed the game.
In other games, one touchdown from Daniel Jones to Keenan Allen and four field goals from Anthony Gould were all that was needed for the Colts to defeat the division rival Texans 19-17. The silver lining for the Texans is that they started last season 0-3 before eventually winning the AFC South.
Sticking with the last AFC South team, the Tennessee Titans fell to 0-3 after losing to the New York Giants (2-1), 12-7. Kicker Dominic Zvada scored all 12 of the Giants' points as neither team eclipsed 270 total yards. Tennessee's Wan'Dale Robinson scored the only touchdown of the game.
The Chiefs improved to 3-0 after holding off the Dolphins 24-10. Miami falls to 0-3 through the first three weeks now in back-to-back seasons.
Kenneth Walker III scored two of the team's three touchdowns, also finishing with 73 total yards. Patrick Mahomes completed 20-of-24 passes for 246 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception to defender Jacob Rodriguez, the first of his career.
Devon Achane walked off the field under his own power after going down with a non-contact injury just five minutes into the game. He was ruled out shortly after, leaving Ollie Gordon II to fill in the starting role.
He finished with 41 yards on 17 carries and the first touchdown of his career.
Despite Seahawks QB Sam Darnold throwing for 379 yards and four touchdowns in his return following an early Week 1 injury, the Commanders (1-2) held on for a close 33-31 win at home for their first win of the season.
Washington were outgained a whopping 437-258, while the Seahawks also had 28 first downs to their 17, but three turnovers and two sacks from the Commanders' defense were all that was needed.
Wide receiver Terry McLaurin led the team with 77 yards and one touchdown that put the Commanders up 24-10. But it was Kain Medrano who played savior with his first career interception as he returned it to the house.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions held off the New York Jets in a 31-24 win. Jets QB Geno Smith had a field day in his team's loss, putting up 333 total yards and three touchdowns, but his crucial fumble at the end of the game put the final nail in the coffin.
Running back Breece Hall, however, left the game in the fourth and was ruled out for the remaining 10 minutes. Both Garrett Wilson (10/107/1) and Kenyon Sadiq (7/105/1) combined for 212 yards and two touchdowns for the Jets, including Sadiq's first career touchdown.
But Jahmyr Gibbs was too much, as he continued to be elite after putting up 164 total yards (99 rushing) with three total touchdowns. QB Jared Goff finished 25-of-32 with 269 yards and two touchdowns.
Second slate of games underway
The Baltimore Ravens are taking on the Dallas Cowboys in Brazil.
In an NFC West battle, the San Francisco 49ers are taking on the Arizona Cardinals.
And the Tampa Bay Buccaneers face the Minnesota Vikings, while the Las Vegas Raiders take on the New Orleans Saints.
Then, it's the Los Angeles Rams vs. Denver Broncos for the late game.
