The Baltimore Orioles acquired infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand in a trade deal with the Cincinnati Reds on Monday in exchange for cash considerations.

Encarnacion-Strand, 26, has two home runs and eight RBI with a .222 batting average through 10 games in Triple-A this season. He hit just six home runs and 19 RBI for the Reds last season through 36 games.

Since making his debut in 2023, Encarnacion-Strand has yet to play in more than 65 games in an MLB season.

He'll be taking a bench role behind Orioles star first baseman Pete Alonso and young third baseman Coby Mayo. As for Ryan Mountcastle, he'll be heading to the 60-day injured list with a fractured foot.

He had four hits in 14 at-bats (.286 BA) with a double and an RBI in eight games this season for the O's, a team he's been with his entire seven-year career. Mountcastle has a $7.5 million club option for next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

Baltimore sits atop the American League East division with an 8-7 record heading into Monday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, while the Reds are 9-7 and second in the National League Central.
