Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland earned his first complete game in his 10-year career in an 8-1 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday to complete the series sweep.

Freeland, 33, gave up just one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks as teammates and fans all celebrated the big moment for the hometown pitcher.

He becomes the first Rockies pitcher to toss a complete game since Chad Kuhl on June 27, 2022.

His complete game is the big bright spot in what has been a career-worst year for the veteran. Freeland has a 6.81 ERA through 20 starts, giving up 138 hits and 23 walks with 93 strikeouts in 108.1 innings.

Since his Cy Young-esque 2022 season in which he finished fourth in voting, Freeland has yet to finish a season with an ERA below 4.30.

He has at least a 5.00 ERA in three of the last four seasons and is coming off a 2025 campaign in which he led the league with 17 losses.

Freeland has a $17 million player option for 2027 on his current contract that vests if he reaches 170 innings this season.
