Danish swimmer Helena Rosendahl Bach improved slightly from the semi-final, but wasn't in the running for a medal in Thursday's World Cup final in the 200-meter butterfly at the the World Aquatics Championships.

The Dane had the slowest start of all swimmers in the final but still managed to claim fifth spot.

"Right now, I'm a bit disappointed, but I feel like I did what I could on the day. That's obviously what I have in me right now", said Rosendahl Bach.

Canadian swimming sensation Summer McIntosh won her third gold medal of the Championships in Singapore but fell agonizingly short of breaking the 200-meter butterfly world record.

Her time of 2:01.99 was less than 0.2 seconds outside the current world record set by China’s Liu Zige in 2009.

“Going into tonight, my coach and I, our big goal was to break that world record,” McIntosh said in her post-race interview. “That’s really what I’ve been training for, and to see that I missed it by that little – I know that I messed up the last 12, 15 meters of my race."

Rosendahl Bach had entered the final with the seventh-best time of the eight finalists. The time in the semi-final was 2 minutes and 7.92 seconds.

In the final, the 25-year-old was marginally faster with a time of 2 minutes and 7.47 seconds.

"There is no doubt that I had dreamed of a little more. It was eight-tenths from a personal record - it would have been more fun if it had been eight-tenths faster", she sayid.

Despite the somewhat difficult start, she was in fourth place halfwayn through the race. But on the last 50 meters, however, she had to see herself overtaken by the 12-year-old Chinese Zidi Yu.

The 25-year old Helena Rosendahl Bach, who was the oldest participant in the final,  was approx. a second and a half from the bronze medal.
