In his maiden international start, Amatosero was sent off during the 33rd minute of the Wallabies' 35-32 win over Japan on Saturday for a high shot on Japan's Warner Dearns.
The SANZAAR Foul Play Review Committee (FPRC) classified it as "an act of foul play (that) merited a mid-range entry point of six weeks".
The recommended six-week sanction was halved down to three games due to Amatosero's guilty plea, remorse and good disciplinary record.
He can have the three-week ban reduced further to two if he chooses to participate in a World Rugby intervention programme (coloquially known as 'tackle school'), which addresses technical issues that led to the red card contact.
Amatosero will be forced to sit out this weekend's home game against Japan in Townsville as well as Gordon's first Shute Shield final on Saturday 22 August, whilst he will be available for Australia's away game in Argentina on 29 August if he participates in the coaching programme.
