Nigeria booked their place in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over South Africa on Tuesday evening.

Goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and Michelle Alozie were enough to see the Super Falcons overcome the reigning African champions at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.

The match was action-packed, fueled by the fierce rivalry between the two nations and their impressive form throughout the tournament.

However, it was Justine Madugu’s side who broke the deadlock just before half-time. After Bambanani Mbane was penalised for a handball in the box, referee Shamirah Nabadda awarded a penalty to the nine-time African champions.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade calmly stepped up and converted from the spot.

Before the breakthrough, Nigeria controlled possession but were repeatedly denied by the impressive South African goalkeeper, Andile Dlamini.

Banyana Banyana drew level on the hour mark after Hildah Magaia was brought down by Osinachi Ohale.

Linda Motlhalo stepped up and confidently converted the penalty, shifting the pressure onto the nine-time African champions.

Nonetheless, it was the Super Falcons who had the final say, thanks to Alozie’s stunning strike in the dying moments. The Houston Dash star unleashed a powerful long-range shot that sailed past a helpless Dlamini.

Nigeria will face Morocco - who later edged Ghana on penalties - in the final scheduled for July 26th in Rabat, as they aim to secure a record-extending 10th African title.
