Back-to-back defeats had cost Djurgarden their place in the top three, slipping down to sixth, while Malmo began the evening level on points in seventh thanks to an inconsistent previous four matches that saw them follow losses with victories.
Malmo's form pattern looked set to continue when they fell behind with 10 minutes of the first half to play, when Piotr Johansson got free down the left wing and produced a delightful cross for Kristian Lien to nod into the back of the net.
The visitors' night improved further just before the hour mark - Bo Hegland received a pass and turned well on the halfway line, before setting Jeppe Okkels away down the left with an incisive pass, and the winger steered his first goal since May into the bottom corner.
And a comfortable evening for the Stockholm side was wrapped up eight minutes from time when MFF once again allowed too much space down their left, this time for Oskar Fallenius, who squared across the edge of the area to Patric Aslund, and he applied the cool finish.
Djurgarden enact revenge for a narrow defeat in April's reverse fixture, while Malmo's goal difference keeps them in seventh, having now lost eight times this season, only the bottom four have lost more.
