The early stages of the game were low on goalmouth action, with Leroy Sané having the only real chances for the visitors, mistiming a volley from a corner that was easily held by Finn Dahmen.
Just seven minutes later, he was played in by Jamal Musiala but could only hit the side netting from a narrow angle. The first sighting of goal for the hosts came on 24 minutes when Samuel Essende’s ball across the face of goal flashed wide.
Just after Michael Olise aimed his free kick too close to Dahmen, Augsburg struck at the other end on the half-hour mark thanks to a quickly taken midfield free kick by captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw.
Dimitrios Giannoulis caught Konrad Laimer napping to connect with the delivery and took a deft touch to make space before smashing viciously off the underside of the bar to give his side the lead.

This setback brought Vincent Kompany’s side to life, and they were back on level terms three minutes before the interval.
This time, Sané was providing for his teammates as he cut in off the left and picked out Musiala, who held off challenges from both Gouweleeuw and Cédric Zesiger before lashing home clinically on the turn.

That goal certainly would have changed the tone of Kompany’s half-time chat, but he would have known his side needed more in the second period.
The league leaders were dealt a blow just over five minutes after the restart as goalscorer Musiala had to be helped off with a hamstring problem. While he was out of action, Sané cut back to Olise, who rattled the crossbar with a first-time effort.
The game swung dramatically towards Bayern just before the hour mark when Zesiger, who was already on a booking, gave the ball away to Kane and, in a desperate attempt to win the ball back, slid in and took the England captain down to pick up a second yellow from Matthias Jöllenbeck.

From the resulting free kick, Olise whipped in a delicious delivery that was met by a diving header from Kane from six yards out to give Die Roten a crucial lead.
Der Rekordmeister did a professional job to see out the game from there, putting the icing on the cake in stoppage time with a deflected Sané effort from the left corner of the box, marking his 50th Bundesliga goal.
Die Fuggerstädter’s first league defeat of 2025 puts a dent in their European hopes. However, all connected with Bayern will be sweating on the fitness of Musiala ahead of a big week in Europe and domestically against Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund.
