One of European football's most in-demand players, Joshua Kimmich, has put months of uncertainty behind him by signing a new long-term deal with Bayern Munich.

This summer marks the 10-year anniversary of Kimmich's transfer to the club from Stuttgart and now the 30-year-old has extended his contract with the Bavarians until 2029.

The German international's recent words on the subject of a move away finally seemed to put a full stop to months of rumours.

"(A new deal) will definitely be coming in the next few days," he told reporters and eventually, on Thursday, it was done.

Bayern Munich's board member for sport, Max Eberl, said of Kimmich after the deal was announced: “He has internalised the FC Bayern DNA for years and embodies it both on and off the pitch. Where others stop, he's just getting started.”

The news is likely to disappoint a number of suitors, as at various points over the past few months, the likes of Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have all appeared to show more than a passing interest in Kimmich.

Clearly, Bayern are delighted that Kimmich has put pen to paper, and the good news follows the recent renewals of Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala.

Currently on €375,000 per week (Capology), it's unclear at present as to whether the club are going to put Kimmich on par with their top earner, Harry Kane, who earns a whopping €480,769 per week.

Given that the former is so coveted and crucial for Bayern, no one would deny him the right to a salary commensurate with his age, experience and importance to his team.

For a start, his incredible versatility marks him out as a special talent - not many players can play in both the right-back and defensive midfield positions as effectively as Kimmich does.

He hardly ever gives the ball away, no matter where he is on the pitch, and that has to be a godsend for first-team head coach, Vincent Kompany.

The recent Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen is the perfect example of Kimmich's involvement in a game, with only a small percentage of his passes going astray (the red arrows in the below graphic).

With the most passes (1,049) and the most touches (1,251) in this season's Champions League, his playmaking abilities aren't in question either, and his teammates evidently trust him to set the tempo in games when they give him the ball. That's a precious commodity to possess as a player.

There's a relentless consistency to his game which most European football players can only dream about too.

Over the course of his entire Bayern career he has made a quite astonishing 31,098 passes of which 28,093 were successful and 8,425 were forward passes, ensuring that he helps get the Bavarians up the pitch at every opportunity.

In each season since he joined Bayern, apart from his first (2015/16), Kimmich has played at least 27 Bundesliga games (he still managed 23 in 15/16), and he's also scored at least once in every campaign bar that first one at the club.

Set-pieces are also his forte, with 58 goals scored from his dead-ball deliveries, including 13 from corner kicks alone. 106 assists in total from a defensive midfield position is a remarkable return.

He's almost never injured and always plays the fullest part in matches, starting 384 of his 427 total games played for the club to date. That, perhaps, puts to bed the argument that players are often 'too tired' when things start to go awry in terms of form.

For a player of such evident finesse, Kimmich likes to get stuck in too, with the amount of ball recoveries made well over 200 in five of the last eight seasons, including the current one (141 recoveries, ongoing).

Add in his 484 interceptions, 190 headed clearances, 361 other clearances and 662 tackles, and one begins to get a feel for the all-round excellence of this generational talent.

Winning is also very much in Kimmich's DNA, and that mentality is a driving force for club and country.

For Bayern across the last decade, he has only lost on 34 separate occasions in the German top-flight.

His 73% win rate, therefore, translates into a preposterous 207 victories from his 285 Bundesliga appearances.

With such a record, it will come as no surprise that he is one of Bayern's most decorated players, winning 20 titles so far during his time at the club, including eight Bundesliga championships, three DFB Pokals, and a Champions League.

His leadership capabilities can't be overlooked either, with both Bayern and the German national team selectors giving him the honour of wearing the captain's armband for club and country.

Age hasn't yet wearied him, and Bayern's supporters will be happy in the knowledge that they'll have a few more seasons to enjoy his brilliance.

If Lady Luck is on his side, too, he might get to celebrate with a Bundesliga and Champions League double.

Currently eight points ahead in the German top-flight and with a date with Inter Milan in the quarter-finals of the premier European competition to come, you can be assured that Kimmich will be going all out to get his hands on both trophies.
