From Joao Neves' hat-trick for PSG to Manchester City's shocking loss to Brighton, there was no shortage of drama over the weekend, the last before the first international break of the season. Catch up on it all with our weekly Winners and Losers.

Winner: Joao Neves

Saturday held an unforgettable evening for Joao Neves. The Portuguese international scored one of the most beautiful hat-tricks in recent memory as PSG thumped Toulouse 6-3, with a display that even earned a historic 10 rating from French newspaper L'Équipe.

Neves made an instant impact against Toulouse with a great bicycle-kick goal, then he added to that by scoring again in the same way, but with even more style.

After two great goals, the Benfica-raised midfielder sealed the deal, but not just in any old way. He scored his third from outside the area to paint a picture worthy of hanging in the Louvre.

Loser: Erik ten Hag

From Champions League semi-finalist to a fall from grace, Erik ten Hag's career is in itself worthy of its own individual Winners and Losers article.

The former Ajax coach arrived at Bayer Leverkusen head of this season with a daunting task, taking over from Xabi Alonso, who made history at the club by winning the Bundesliga and German Cup double, and at a difficult time for the Dutchman.

After losing credit for his time at Manchester United, increasingly a graveyard for managers, Ten Hag moved to the Bundesliga, but his decision seemed wrong from the start when Bayer were beaten by Flamengo's under-20s in pre-season.

In official matches, not much improved, and after two league games and a point against 10-man Werder Bremen, Ten Hag was sacked on Monday morning.

Winner: James Milner

At 39, James Milner is still enjoying memorable days in the Premier League for Brighton, the most competitive league in the world.

On Sunday, the former England international became the oldest player ever to score in the Premier League, downed Manchester City 2-1, his former club, and dedicated the goal to his friend Diogo Jota, after wearing the number 20 on his shirt in honour of the deceased Portuguese.

What a win, and what a man!

Loser: Santiago Gimenez

It was a turbulent week for Mexican forward Santiago Gimenez. In training, he inadvertently injured teammate Ardon Jashari, who will be sidelined for two months.

Hours before Milan's game with Lecce, in which he was a starter, sporting director Igli Tare admitted in an interview that the club wants to swap Gimenez with Artem Dovbyk of Roma.

On the pitch, the Mexican went through a rollercoaster of emotions. First, he squandered a clear goal-scoring opportunity for Milan, missing in a clamourous fashion.

Shortly afterwards, he scored, ran towards the bench and, on his knees, pointed his hands and gaze towards the sky, dedicating the goal precisely to Jashari, the teammate he himself had put out of action.

But fate was cruel. Minutes later, the VAR intervened and cancelled out the goal for offside. There are weeks to remember, and ones to forget...

Winner: Jarleysom

A centre back shining as a... goalkeeper! Not even in Jarleysom's strangest dreams would something like this have happened, but the biggest game of this centre-back's career was actually spent between the posts.

In the 43rd minute of Portimonense's match with Benfica B, Sebastien Cibois was shown a straight red, which forced substitute goalkeeper Douglas Friedrich onto the pitch... for four minutes.

Just before half-time, the second goalkeeper was also sent off, and Jarleysom volunteered to put the gloves on.

The 21-year-old defender was the hero for Portimonense, who, playing with nine men for 45 minutes, managed to beat Benfica B at Seixal thanks to the decisive interventions of their makeshift gloveman.

Will Jarleyson take over in goal for Tiago Fernandes' team in the next round, given the punishments of the two main keepers? Possibly!

Loser: VAR in Chelsea vs Fulham

The London derby between Chelsea and Fulham ended in a 2-0 win for the Blues, but the big protagonist in the clash turned out to be VAR, unfortunately. Two crucial decisions cost Fulham the game and led to manager Marco Silva's obvious discontent.

The first moment of controversy came when Joshua King spun over Trevoh Chalobah and, by putting his foot down naturally, ended up catching the defender. The move ended in a goal, but VAR intervened and the score was ruled out, much to the dismay of the visiting team.

Shortly afterwards, the bad luck repeated itself when a ball clearly hit Joao Pedro's arm inside the Chelsea area, but the referee and VAR signalled nothing.

As if that wasn't enough, a few moments later, it was Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon who was punished with a penalty, also for a handball!

Winners: FC Porto

After a season to forget, FC Porto completely overhauled their squad and coaching staff, and the initial signs were positive, but Francesco Farioli's team still has to face one big test.

What better way to prove that this is an improved side than with a win in the Clasico against two-time defending champions Sporting, and at the home of their rivals?

The Blue and Whites left Alvalade in sole possession of top spot in the Portuguese league, after a 2-1 win, brightened by William Gomes' wonder strike, and with the certainty that this could be a very different season for the boys from the north.

Losers: Manchester City

Manchester City's situation is clearly the opposite of Porto's right now. Despite heavy investment in the squad, which continues to be led by Pep Guardiola, City still haven't found the rhythm that was their defining characteristic before the 2024/25 season.

Their convincing start against Wolverhampton this season has not been followed up, and after two defeats - against Spurs and Brighton - City will go into the Manchester derby trailing their local rivals, despite the negative attention dominating Old Trafford much more so than the Etihad.

After the disappointment of last season and the revamping of the squad, more is expected of this Manchester City, who are only 13th in the table and six points behind leaders Liverpool.

It's early days, but the pressure is already on Pep.
