FC Copenhagen say on Thursday that attacking midfielder Magnus Mattsson as a minimum will miss the rest of the season with an injury.

FC Copenhagen will be handicapped by the absence of Magnus Mattsson for an extended period of time.

In Wednesday's match against FC Basel, the 26-year-old attacking midfielder had to be substituted due to severe knee pain and left the stadium on crutches.

Now all fears have been confirmed.

On Thursday, the Lions wrote on their website that the midfielder is out for at least the rest of this season.

Coach Jacob Neestrup laments the bad injury:

"Magnus has been an absolute key player at the start of the season, both nationally and internationally."

We are therefore disappointed on our own behalf not to be able to use Magnus in relation to our sporting goals, but it hurts even more to think that Magnus will lose the opportunity to be part of a very exciting season."

Mattsson has had his ups and downs at FC Copenhagen since his transfer in January 2024. But recently he has been more or less a regular in Neestrup's team and has distinguished himself with a number of good performances.

The midfielder injured his knee midway through the second half on Wednesday evening and limped out. He subsequently left Parken Stadiumon crutches.

"We know that our health dept. will work hard to get Magnus back among his teammates, so that both they and the fans can see him play more big games for FC Copenhagen", says Jacob Neestrup.

The long-term injury leaves an already thin FC Copenhagen midfield vulnerable, and after the victory over Basel, Neestrup did not hide the fact that the midfield needs to be strengthened before an autumn that offers Champions League football.

Sports director Sune Smith-Nielsen has less than a week to follow up on this

The transfer window closes on Monday, September 1st.
