12 - Aston Villa were made to work in what was a back-and-forth game against Celtic. In the end, the hosts prevailed 4-2 to qualify directly for the last 16. In what was their thrird win in as many matche against Scottish sides; Unai Emery's side have scored 12 goals in those matches.
28 - Barcelona and Atalanta played to a 2-2 draw, which was enough for the Catalans to finish second in the league phase standings. They did lead the 36 teams in number of goals scored though, as Barca found the back of the net a whopping 28 times for an average of 3.5 goals per game.
4 - Bayer Leverkusen qualified for the round of the 16 with a 2-0 victory at home to Sparta Praha. The Czech side lost their last six in the competition after picking up four points from their opening two matches. Not only did they finish on four points, but Sparta also failed to score in half of their league phase ties.
11 - Slovan Bratislava's maiden journey in the Champions League proper ended with a 3-1 defeat at Bayern Munich. It was the 11th time a Slovak club lost across 13 away games in the UCL proper all-time. It is now eight straight away defeats and nine without a win since Petrzalka stunned Porto in the 2005/06 group stage.
21 - Real Madrid had few issues during their 3-0 success at Brest to conclude their league phase. In doing so, Carlo Ancelotti's men picked up their 21st victory versus Ligue 1 opposition in Europe, in what was their 38th such match. As was the case in their first game against a Spanish side, Brest fell to defeat.
2 - Dinamo Zagreb finally beat AC Milan at the seventh time of asking. Unfortunately for them, the 2-1 win against the seven-time champions was not enough for them to advance as they missed out on goal difference. For Milan - who also fell out of the top eight spots - it was the second time they were defeated by Croatian opposition, with Rijeka handing them a 2-0 loss in the Europa League group stage seven years ago.
9 - Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways with a 3-1 defeat of Shakhtar Donetsk. Die Schwargelben remain unbeaten versus Ukrainian opposition in what was their ninth such match (7-2-0). Shakhtar, who had a minuscule chance of progressing, are out with the loss.
3 - Arsenal picked up a 2-1 victory at Girona, ending the LaLiga side's maiden continental campaign with a seventh reverse. In that win, the Gunners conceded for just the third time in the league phase. In a UCL group phase, that is the joint-second fewest goals Arsenal have ever conceded at that stage in a season. In 2005/06, they let in just two goals in that round of the tournament, where they ended up reaching the final.
7 - Internazionale showed their quality in a 3-0 success against AS Monaco, qualifying for the last 16 at the expense of their Ligue 1 opponents. The Nerazzurri kept seven clean sheets in the UCL, and were one of three sides (Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen) to seldom concede at home. Strangely enough, all three of Inter, Arsenal, and Leverkusen scored nine times in those home games.
8 - Juventus continued their struggles with Benfica, as the Portuguese side prevailed 2-0 on the road. That is loss number eight for the Bianconeri versus teams from Portugal. Of those eight defeats, seven of them have come at the hands of Benfica, with Porto claiming the other one.
6 - Lille went rampant in their match, as they beat Feyenoord 6-1 at home to climb into the top eight and qualify directly for the last 16. It is the first time ever that Feyenoord conceded that many goals in a European tie, while the 21 goals let in during the league phase are the most of the 24 sides still left in the competition.
35 - Manchester City came from behind to get past Club Brugge 3-1 and join the Belgian side in the knockout round playoffs. The Cityzens are now 35 home games without a loss in the UCL, three off Barcelona's record, which the Catalans held between 2013 and 2020. It has been more than six years since City's last home loss in Europe, a 2-1 reverse to Lyon.
17 - PSV handed Liverpool their second defeat against Dutch opposition after a 3-2 win in Eindhoven. Liverpool's 17-game unbeaten run against Dutch opposition came to an end, with the defeat being their first in nearly six decades. That reverse came in a 5-1 thumping by Ajax in the 1966/67 European Cup.
20 - Atletico Madrid finished off their league phase campaign with an impressive 4-1 victory at RB Salzburg. Los Colchoneros scored 20 goals in the league phase, the second most of the sides who managed to finish in the top eight. 10 - Sporting CP got the goal they needed in a 1-1 draw at home to Bologna to advance by the skin of their teeth. They are now winless in 10 against Italian opposition in Europe. It has been 13 years since they beat Lazio in the Europa League group stage.
1 - Sturm Graz ended their first Champions League group phase appearance in a quarter-century with a 1-0 win over RB Leipzig. The German side ended up with only one win in the league phase this season - the first time they failed to have multiple victories in a European campaign.
13 - Paris Saint-Germain ran rampant in the first half of a 4-1 success at Stuttgart. The result means the French side have made the knockout rounds of the UCL for the 13th season running, eliminating their Bundesliga opponents in the process. Stuttgart, along with Dinamo, ended up being eliminated despite reaching 10 points.
5 - Young Boys finished at the foot of the UCL league phase standings following a 1-0 loss to Crvena zvezda.
