Despite seeing their winless run away from home extended to 13 games, Mjallby fought back to earn a valuable point in a 1-1 draw away to FC Iberia 1999 in the League Phase of the UEFA Conference League.

With a sparse crowd inside the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium adding to the malaise, there was a lack of intensity from both sides in the early exchanges. Quality was also lacking in the final third, and the biggest chance of the half came through set pieces. Tony Miettinen had the best opportunity for the visitors as he looked set to tap in from a corner, only to be denied by a fantastic piece of last-ditch defending from Giorgi Kobuladze.

Kobuladze then almost had an impact at the other end, picking out Nika Sikharulashvili with a fantastic cross, but the first time finished curled just wide of the post.

With the half winding down, the Iberia captain Jemali-Giorgi Jinjolava took aim from distance and was almost rewarded with the opener as his curling shot cracked the face of the crossbar with the sides going in level at the break.

Although the Swedish side started brightly after the restart, they found themselves behind on 55 minutes. Sikharulashvili showed his quality as he danced his way into the box, before being clumsily felled by Villiam Granath. Jinjolava had to face a nervy wait for the VAR check, but kept his cool to roll the resultant penalty into the corner to score the first goal by a Georgian side at this stage of the Conference League.

Mjallby almost found an instant response, only for Jacob Bergstrom to be denied by the crossbar as their frustration began to grow. As the game wore on, it became one-way traffic towards the Iberia goal, however, the home side continued to stand strong as Aki Samuelsen was denied by a fingertip save from Giorgi Makaridze.

Just when it looked like the hosts were going to see the game out, substitute Tom Pettersson had an immediate impact, reacting quickest to fire home a loose ball from close range to earn a late draw.

The point sees Mjallby well-placed to advance with four points from their opening two fixtures, while a home game against Borac next time out could see them add to that total. Iberia on the other hand, are already up against it, needing wins but facing a daunting trip to face FC Copenhagen in their next UECL game.
