It looked like FC Midtjylland were headed for a penalty shootout against Hibernian in the second round of the Europa League qualifiers, but at the end of extra time, returning Junior Brumado sent the visitors through to the next round with a formidable goal.
With the score at 1-1 in the 119th minute, Kevin Mbabu sent a cross into the Hibernian box where Brumado scored with a memorable scissor kick to secure a 2-1 win for the Danes as they went through to the next round 3-2 on aggregate.
A few minutes earlier, the Brazilian striker had come on for his first match in the FC Midtjylland shirt since August 2023.
The first match had ended 1-1 in Herning, and after 0-0 in regular time in Scotland, extra time was needed.
In extra-time Dario Osorio put the visitors in front after a few minutes with an excellent long-range drive, but the Scots restored parity before Brumado finally sent FC Midtjylland through to the next round with another wonder goal.
The Danes otherwise had a tough start to the game in Scotland but gradually found their feet in Edinburgh.
As the break approached, the visitors had the majority of possession, and in the second half, the Danes' dominance only increased.
But Thomas Thomasberg's side struggled to create any open scoring opportunities and therefore, it took another 30 minutes of football to find a winner.
In extra time, it didn't take many minutes before the visitors finally found their way to the net.
With the Scots defending deep, Dario Osorio decided to take the chance from distance, and the the ball swerved like a cannonball into the far corner.
Before that goal, Hibernian had not crossed the middle for long periods of time, but the Scots still managed to get back into the game.
Shortly before the half-time break, Thody Elie Youan broke into the Danish box and squared the ball for the onrushing Rocky Bushiri to bring the match back on level terms.
From then on, Hibernian again retreated and with the Danes struggling to create chances, it looked like we were heading for penalties until Brumado decided the match.
With the advancement in Scotland, Norwegian outfit Fredrikstad FK awaits the Danes in the next round. Midtjylland starts on away ground on 7 august while the return match is played in Herning a week later.
