SC Cambuur honour the Royal Canadian Dragoons, the senior armoured regiment of the Canadian Army, who on April 15th, 1945, liberated Leeuwarden, the provincial capital of Frisia, from the German occupier. Less than one month later, the Netherlands would be officially liberated.
In honour of the Royal Canadian Dragoons, SC Cambuur released a special kit that resembles the regiment's uniform and features the Canadian maple leaf. The club released the kit with a video narrated by 100-year-old Jim Parks, the last living member of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, the army regiment that entered Leeuwarden after the Royal Canadian Dragoons liberated the city.
SC Cambuur will wear the kit during the home game against Vitesse on April 25th. The club will extensively honour the city's liberators around and during the match.
