Jordan Henderson (34) has lashed out at Dutch media after a transfer saga involving the former English international dominated this week's headlines.

Last week, Henderson was the subject of an explosive transfer saga after Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco reportedly submitted a bid for the 81-time English international.

The transfer drama took place ont he day of Ajax's last game of the Europa League's League Phase against Galatasaray. Henderson decided to hand the captain's armband over to goalkeeper Remko Pasveer shortly before kick-off. The Englishman did this because he wasn't sure about how long he would play at Ajax.

"Everything that has been said and written about this is 99 per cent nonsense,’" a furious Henderson stated in the press room of the Johan Cruijff ArenA after Ajax's 2-1 derby win over Feyenoord.

"I wasn't myself last Thursday. I was emotional, but nobody needs to doubt my professional attitude.

"I also have family, friends and I have a wife and children. It's not nice that things like that get published then."

The former Liverpool captain mostly aimed his frustration at De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij. Verweij first published the story of Henderson's transfer demand and followed it up Friday afternoon with the news of Henderson changing his mind and staying at Ajax after all.

Unprofessional

Henderson mentioned Ajax's financial situation as a reason behind the club negotiating with AS Monaco. The 34-year-old midfielder is one of the club's top earners in a time of financial difficulties.

"People constantly point out how much I do earn," said Henderson. "And then a possible solution comes along and then I am put down as unprofessional.

Henderson got criticised for allegedly not celebrating Kian Fitz-Jim's 2-0 against Galatasaray and did not participate in the team's lap around the stadium after the match.

"That's not fair. Immediately after the match and the day after, I had talks with the Ajax club management. We decided that it would be best for everyone if I stayed at Ajax. I am very happy with that."

Jordan Henderson joined Ajax in January of 2024 after spending six months at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq. The Englishman is under contract until the summer of 2026.
