Portuguese giants Benfica are reportedly preparing a move for FC Groningen captain Stije Resink, who's also targeted by the likes of Ajax.

According to Voetbal International journalist Joost Blaauwhof, it was Jose Mourinho who recommended signing midfielder Stije Resink, and the Benfica coach is said to have even contacted the player personally.

The same source adds, however, that Benfica have not yet made a formal offer for the player, who came through the ranks at Almere City and is now in his second season at FC Groningen.

Resink, a defensive midfielder, has been reported as a target of Dutch giants Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV, but the Groningen captain said in December that a January move was out of the question. "I'm going on holiday, and I expect to finish the season here," Resink said before the winter break.

Stije Resink is under contract until 2028 and is valued at 6.9 million euros by Flashscore.
