Previous success stories involving Danes in the AZ shirt include Kristen Nygaard, Kenneth Perez, and Simon Poulsen, who also joined from Midtjylland.
Byskov played for Denmark's national youth teams from an early age and currently represents the Denmark Under-21 national team. Byskov is thrilled to have joined the Dutch Eredivisie outfit and says:

Valdemar Byskov, born and raised in Herning, joined FC Midtjylland at the age of 11. Throughout his time in the academy, he was considered one of the club's brightest prospects, a status underscored by his first-team debut at 17 and his dominant performances across the youth ranks.
He also delivered several memorable moments at senior level, including decisive goals in the Europa League against Ludogorets, Fenerbahçe, and Nottingham Forest.
"Valdemar has played a part in creating some great moments for FC Midtjylland. His goals in European competition, in particular, have been highly significant, and we are delighted that a player who has come all the way through our own system has made his mark on both the Superliga and our European matches. That is something we can be proud of," says Midtjylland Sport Director Kristian Bach Bak.
